Morning Routine 101
Let me start by saying, yes, I know that this is something that everyone knows they should be doing and it’s something that people don’t do on a regular basis.
One of my favorite coaches who I admire is Mel Robbins, she says “start your morning off with a five second rule!” Now, the five second rule is intended to push you to do things that you don’t necessarily want to do, but you know you’ll feel better once you do them. Eighty percent of people that start doing their something in the first five minutes will have achieved that goal, so why spend more time thinking about having to do then just doing it and getting it done with. I always say, why wait for tomorrow what you can do today.
So, when that little voice starts creeping into your subconscious telling you all the excuses in the world, I want you to countdown from five.
5…4...3…2…1…
Once you get to one, you’re physically moving your body and doing what you said you’re going to do. Get this momentum going on a regular basis, it will eventually be easier and more intuitive throughout your day, weeks, months, and year.
Okay, enough about that. Let’s get you organized!
How to get your morning routine organized. Let’s take five minutes and come up with at least four solid morning routine ideas. They can be a mix of things that you look forward to doing in the morning and things that you know that you need to be doing before you start the rest of your day.
….
Great job!
Now you’re gonna put this list together in a organized way that’s easy to flow through. Next put it in a place where you see it first thing in the morning, it may go in your calendar, in your phone as an alert or it may go on a sticky note. Just make sure to put it in a place you are going to see it first thing in the morning. (For those of you like myself, you could make it a little bit inspirational with an artistic flair.)
Once you have the list you’re going to stick to it! This is a promise to yourself that you were going to do what you say you’re going to do. Get accountability this could show up as simply making this promise to yourself and sticking to it. If you know that you’re one of those people that has a hard time following through with things that they say they’re going to do for themselves you need to ask for accountability with another person. Make sure that you ask someone that is up for the challenge to follow up with you and make sure that you’re doing what you say you’re going to. You could even get an accountability partner and do it together, maybe find a friend that would enjoy starting a new morning routine with you and you too can hold each other accountable.
And lastly, have fun! Enjoy the process of incorporating your new lifestyle by putting yourself first, taking care of your well-being so that way you can pay it forward to others.
As always mahalo and nā ho’omaika’i! (Thank you & congratulations)!
